Prison IslandLocated on the west side of Zanzibar, Prison Island is a twenty minute (motor) boat ride away. The island – also known as Changuu Island – is about half a mile long and eight miles wide. It was used by former slave owners as a private detention for disobedient slaves. General Mathews bought the island and built a prison on it, hence the name Prison Island. The prison was never put into use, but it still remains. On the island one can swim & snorkel or take a stroll and spot the giant tortoises.

Safari BlueSafari Blue explores the Menai Bay Conservation Area, which is home to two different species of dolphins, the Indo-pacific humpback and the bottlenose. In the morning, the Safari Blue boats set down on one of the beautiful sandbanks where one can relax, swim or snorkel. After snorkeling cold drinks, fresh coconuts and local snacks will be served.

Then the safari is headed to Kwale island where the “desert island” restaurant is located. The buffet lunch includes fish, slipper lobster, calamari, rice and sauces all served hot from the grill. The crew also prepares and presents a gastronomic fruit tasting with a large selection of delicious tropical fruits. Join the crew for a sail on an “ngalawa”- a local canoe with outriggers which has been carved from a single mango tree! As Safari Blue comes to an end and one will return by traditional lanteen sail, the full splendor of the African sunset reveals itself.

Safari Blue is a full day trip and includes use of top quality snorkeling equipment with guides and instructors, ice cold sodas, mineral water and beer, a delicious Zanzibari seafood lunch with grilled fish and slipper lobster, gastronomic fruit tasting, coffee and Amarula liqueur.
